National Disability Insurance Scheme Rally

National Disability Insurance Scheme Rally

Autism Queensland is a proud supporter of the proposed National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS will make it easier for people to access essential care, support, therapy, equipment, early intervention and training.

On Monday 30th April ‘NDIS: Make it Real in 2012’ rallies were held simultaneously in capital cities around Australia to send a clear message to the Federal Government and the Opposition that the time has come for the NDIS. It is now time for ACTION!

It is critical that the proposed NDIS recognises that Autism affects many areas of the person’s functioning including socialisation, cognition, communication and behaviour.

The support needs of people with Autism are not as immediately apparent or obvious as those of people with physical disabilities.  Any assessment tools utilised in the scheme must be sensitive to the unique characteristics of Autism and be administered by practitioners with expertise in Autism.

It is vital that the proposed NDIS recognises the unique characteristics of Autism within all stages and elements of design and development, to ensure that families and individuals experience a service response that is sensitive to their unique needs.

HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
