MACKAY - Dealing with Challenging Behaviour
Venue: Skys Functions Venue, Magpies Sporting Club, Glenella Road, Glenella, Mackay
Date: 10 May 2012 (9:00AM to 3:00PM)
A framework will be presented to support the participant to examine the underlying reasons for more challenging behaviour and identify effective strategies for managing that behaviour using a positive behaviour approach. Through positive programming and environmental adaptations, individuals will develop a better understanding of expectations, are less likely to engage in challenging behaviours and are more likely to engage in the social and learning environment.
Scenarios and examples will be drawn from the extensive experience of our trainers working directly with children and adults with ASD and in consultation with families, schools and other agencies throughout Queensland. The presenter will also utilise examples provided by participants to expand and clarify the process of positive behaviour support.
Participants will be supported to identify intervention strategies to reduce problem behaviours, develop functional skills and support successful inclusion in specialised and mainstream programs and in the greater community. Common pitfalls that can occur when implementing an intervention will also be discussed. Participants will be involved in practical exercises and discussions. Questions and sharing of information and ideas is encouraged and highly desirable to enhance learning outcomes for all.
