Day 1 and 2 - TEACCH MASTERCLASS with Professor Gary Mesibov
Autism Queensland is proud to announce that we are bringing one of the world's leading Autism experts, Professor Gary Mesibov to Australia to deliver a two day MASTERCLASS on TEACCH and the application of the techniques and strategies of this approach to enhance the development of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Developed in the 1970's, TEACCH is a proven methodology that is now delivered solidly in schools across the US and UK as well as being utilised in Denmark, Venezuela, Spain, Israel, Canada, France, Japan and the Netherlands.
Dr. Gary B. Mesibov is currently the Director of Division TEACCH at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a position he has held since 1992. This internationally recognized statewide program is one of a kind in its pioneering approaches to service, treatment, training, research and the education of individuals with autism.
Prior to Dr. Mesibov's appointment as Director of Division TEACCH, he served as the Division's Co-Director from 1987 and the Associate Director from 1983. Dr. Mesibov also serves as Professor of Psychology, Dept. of Psychiatry, and Clinical Professor, Dept. of Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Mesibov has received degrees from Stanford University (A.B.), The University of Michigan (M.A.), Brandeis University (Ph.D.), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Postdoctoral Fellow). Dr. Mesibov is a licensed Psychologist in the state of North Carolina.
Memberships include the American Psychological Association, The Autism Society of America, The Autism Society of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Psychological Association. He has served on the Executive Board of the Orange County Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and has also been on the Executive Board of the North Carolina Society for Children and Adults with Autism. He served for 15 years with Residential Services Inc. which administers group homes for developmentally disabled children and adults in North Carolina.
Dr. Mesibov's current editorial appointments include: Editor of the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders and membership on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Clinical Child Psychology and the Journal of Pediatric Psychology. He has written numerous books,
Day 3 - RESEARCH FORUM
Autism Queensland featured the latest Research on ASD at the 2007 Australian Biennial Conference on Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The Research Forum on day 3 of this event will feature the latest Research related to Autism Spectrum Disorders by International and National Academic, Clinical and Practitioner Researchers.
Research papers will focus on current Research into Education, Early Intervention, Therapy, Communication, Independence and Support of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The Plenary will feature Dr Tony Attwood and Dr Kate Sofronoff presenting the outcomes of their research: A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Anger Management in Children Diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.Kate Sofronoff, Tony Attwood, Sharon Hinton, Irina Levin
Professor Tony Attwood
Tony Attwood is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in autism spectrum disorders since he qualified as a clinical psychologist in England in 1975. He works in private practice in Brisbane and is an adjunct professor at Griffith University, Queensland.

Kate Sofronoff is the Director of Clinical Programs, School of Psychology and
Director of Research: Families of Children with Special Needs, The Parent and family Support Centre, The University of Queensland

Host your own event
In addition to supporting these events, you can host your own
fundraising events. This is a great way to have some fun with
colleagues, family and friends while providing Autism Queensland
with much needed funds.
We're always open to new and innovative ideas! You can organise
small fundraising activities or tailor already existing events
to support Autism Queensland.

ask your friends to donate to Autism Queensland
- Instead of giving birthday or Christmas gifts donate

- Initiate a payroll deduction scheme
- Include a fundraising BBQ at a social activity or
event
