My five-year-old son, Gareth, has been a client of yours for nearly a year now. He was diagnosed with Aspergers Autism Syndrome a year ago and I felt so lonely and isolated after receiving his diagnosis.

This year, my son has made some fantastic improvements with his social, emotional and physical development and I want to acknowledge that the support, encouragement and services I have received from the Autism Queensland, John Villiers Centre of Excellence in Rockhampton are what has made the most difference in my son’s life.

I just wanted to share with you the wonderful things happening in this new centre of yours this year because everyone should know how this centre is ‘bridging the gap’ and opening the doors to enhance the quality of life and opportunities for young children and families living with autism spectrum disorder.

I would like you to recognise these people in your services because they have already changed my family’s life and I have learnt to view my son as having a lot to contribute to society rather than a child who has a ‘physical blindness disability’.
