Therapy in Action

Observations of specialists working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) and perusing the facilities and resources of a specialised setting can be an extremely valuable form of training. The complexity and subtlety of ASD and the techniques used to work with the children attending the Autism Queenlsand Therapy and Education Centres are such that simple, unsupported observation does not convey sufficient information about what actually takes place.

For observers to gain the maximum benefit from observations they will require information about ASD, the strategies being used, the reasons for these strategies, the resources being used and our facilities. In order to provide visitors with this information Autism Queensland offers observational visits and programs in the following ways.

One Hour Meeting

This meeting involves an overview of our services and a walk around the facilities. These visits are available on pre-arranged dates and times. There is no charge for this service.

One Day Observational Visit

While being accompanied by a staff member from the Training & Consultancy Team you will observe group sessions in progress and have time to discuss what has been observed. Specific arrangements may be made with regard to the type of groups to be observed and/or the type of sessions to be observed. These visits are suitable for professional and support staff. The times for this visit are 9am to 3pm. The cost of this service is $135.00 (incl gst).

Full Day Information and Observation Program

This day will include observations of Autism Queensland group sessions most suitable to your needs. You will be accompanied by a staff member from the Training & Consultancy Team.

You will observe group sessions in progress and have time to discuss what has been observed. Specific arrangements may be made with regard to the type of groups to be observed and/or the type of sessions to be observed. Time will also be allowed for more extensive discussion on a particular topic (eg. early intervention programming, inclusion in mainstream, communication skills, stress management etc.)

This service is also available for more than one day if further observation or information sessions are required. These visits are suitable for professional and support staff. The times for this visit are 9am to 4.30pm. The cost of this service for one day is $180.00 (incl gst).

Visits By Large Groups

Visits by large groups cannot usually include observation of classes as this is too disruptive and distressing for the children. Costs will depend on the number of people attending, the length of the visit and the input required.
